I think white guilt is kinda stupid considering that I was never born when black ppl were treated like slaves etc like I got nothing to do with that

@zonk @david the controllers will say anything that sounds good to get compliance.
guilt is just what works on whites because they have a feeling of responsibility, an inversion of the white savior complex where we once thought that we had the responsibility to uplift primitive cultures

@david it also depends on which whites you're talking about. my ancestors were крестьяне (peasant slaves who worked the land) at one point, so that has nothing to do with me.
at the same time, i think a little guilt is natural, especially if it was your lineage that was directly involved in colonialism or the slave trade. it's only human. but the fetishization of it is really gross, it's taking advantage of people for cheap brownie points

@zonk @david part of the rationale is that like if you were black you got held back from the race for centuries and so your family never got to build up generational wealth and that wealth gives you advantage even right now over black people.
I thought it made sense but then my dad said something like "you are the first and only in our family that graduated college and all our wealth was lost in the great depression.
my ancestors came to north america before it was the USA and today my family is doing worse than when we came here. the only person in my family who is well off is me. everybody else is a generation away from poverty. the closest we have to generational wealth is some of my relatives own houses. but if they lost their job they would lose their house and at current rates they'd never get a house again so the "wealth" is illusory.
I don't even know anybody from growing up that had any form of "generational wealth" except for the house.
when I look around most white people got their economic stability erased in the 1980s and never recovered. I still believe there are historical disadvantages for black people that hurt them even today but the framing of like this multi hundred year treadmill of wealth accumulation is just garbage.
