Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 19-Nov-2024 06:22:11 JST Sick Sun Nobody ever sets a cyberpunk novel in Iowa. Like, Des Moines in 2040 cyberpunk dystopia probably looks about the same as the 1980s if you're just out walking around. It might even work better because there's still payphones for that cyberpunk phone phreaking aesthetic -

djsumdog (djsumdog@djsumdog.com)'s status on Tuesday, 19-Nov-2024 06:34:28 JST djsumdog So ... exactly like present day Baltimore 😋 😇
I like the way Minimum Basic Income was portrayed in those novels/shows ... because the reality is, without some form of infinite power and/or replicators, space communism would look way more like The Expanse and way less like Star Trek

anemone🦐🦀🦞 (animeirl@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 19-Nov-2024 06:40:05 JST anemone🦐🦀🦞 @djsumdog @sun Earth in the expanse isn't communist. It's the logical extrapolation of liberalism. Eventually there's so many surplus humans that you toss them the bare minimum for subsistance so they don't riot. Basically the Andrew Yang plan Sick Sun likes this.
