   BlackSky is a custom feed on BlueSky that contains posts from Black users. There are 550K BlackSky users. Almost all of those users posted something this month.

   For perspective: According to Mastodon.social, there are ~894K monthly active Mastodon accounts.

   There are only ~50M Black folk in the US. So 500K is a very large number.

     Sorry, let me clarify...

     800K is not the number of Black monthly active users on Mastodon.

     800K is the number of total Mastodon monthly active users.

     I think there are probably closer to 800 Black monthly active users on Mastodon. So, off by 1000x.

     @mekkaokereke honestly stunned that the number is that high here, given what I've heard literally every Black person on Mastodon describe about being Black on Mastodon. I would have thought we'd have a fraction of Bluesky's membership.

     @mekkaokereke welp. I guess that means BlueSky is going to ultimately win. I created an account there today. I'm just sad I slept on it so long that I didn't get an account for StealthMountain. I suppose I should stand up my own instance for him anyway lol

     I don't think it's over yet. Far from it.

     Mastodon could just decide, "That's it! We're shipping starter packs! We need volunteers! Who's in?" And that would close a lot of the gap.
