@tek@freeradical.zone I'm not going to vote in this for what are probably obvious reasons, but I do want to see how this shakes out because honestly I don't know if I want to federate with bridgy users
@pagrus I’m ok with it at a per-user level. I don’t mind if you use Bridgy as long as I don’t have to. Making it opt-out and instance-level was a bad launch. The new setup removes 90% of my objections.
@pagrus Understood, and I have no desire to use it myself. Would it irk you if I did, though, and why? (Not intending to argue, more trying to think through the implications.)
@tek@freeradical.zone that's your (and your users') call obviously, I just want no part of it. opt in makes it less of a dick move but the core concept is no different and that is what I object to
@pagrus I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. I wouldn’t have a Twitter account today. I deleted mine a couple years ago and wouldn’t go back. Bluesky is distasteful to me but it’s not Twitter level bad, to the point I’d cut ties with a server that only permits users to talk to it.
@tek@freeradical.zone for me it's less a technical question and more like why would you? I think it indicates a fundamental disagreement on what belongs where. I don't want to interact with people who are pro-vc-backed federated social media if I can help it
@tek@freeradical.zone I think Ro makes some good points wrt people being attracted to bluesky for different reasons, and I certainly don't begrudge them those spaces. but they are also not trying to bring it here into my feed
@pagrus If I were a single user instance, I wouldn’t. I don’t want or need it. Some people here have asked for it though, and its new opt-in policy changes my thinking a lot.
There are some positive effects, too. If someone here wants to follow one specific account there, they’d be able to without making an account on it. That seems helpful.
@tek@freeradical.zone I will say for the record that I appreciate your transparency here, and I am probably/possibly more hardline than most. but yeah if you open that can of worms I don't want anything to do with it
