   @rubixhelix You are underestimating the power of education, especially if kids are taught what to look our for in advertising and marketing, taught critical thinking. The better informed people are, the better choices they make. @adritheonly @dalias @AbandonedAmerica

     @CStamp @rubixhelix @adritheonly @AbandonedAmerica Even if that were true, the problem is not just education but power to set educational agenda to fix this. You can't presume you have the power to set educational policy because you don't. A lot of it is held by people who don't want the population to be educated in this sense.

     @dalias @CStamp @rubixhelix @AbandonedAmerica You're a librarian. That is a fair amount of power. Each parent tell their children stories at night, spend time with them on holidays and weekends and at mealtimes (hopefully), again that is also a fair amount of power.

     @adritheonly @CStamp @rubixhelix @AbandonedAmerica That's exactly what I mean by "doesn't scale". Anything of the form "if everyone would just..." is a complete non starter.

     As for what you said about me, I thought you were addressing someone else by mistake, but I think you just misinterpreted my profile.

     @dalias @CStamp @rubixhelix @AbandonedAmerica Yes I did misinterpret your profile and yes "if everyone would just" IS a complete non-starter. What I meant by that comment is that everyone that spend time with children (legally) not only has the opportunity but the obligation to steer young minds in a better direction. Leaving it to the educators is downright dangerous these days.
     Edit: Just reading books like "The Demon-Haunted World (C Sagan; A Druyan) could give a different perspective.

     @adritheonly @CStamp @rubixhelix @AbandonedAmerica It's a worthwhile pursuit to inoculate kids you can, but won't save civilization. We need systematic policy approaches for the latter.
