There's a 4 min difference between these two routes. The "faster" route has me crossing Blewett Pass, which is never a good idea on a day with #snow in the forecast.
You want to shove an #AI down my throat? How about an AI that can consider things like the #weather forecast (or current conditions) and the potential for dangerous #driving conditions on one route versus another? Too many people blindly accept the faster route and find themselves in trouble.

@douglasvb @mlanger stupid maps will route me to a lower traffic route that requires taking an unprotected left onto a 6 lane road. There is a reason no one is choosing that route.

The route planning on Google maps has gotten incredibly bad in the last year. Whatever AI or algorithmic 🐂💩 they've done is hot garbage.
For instance every time I drive from SFO down to Monterey, it tries extremely hard to route me over highway 17 which goes over the Santa Cruz Mountains and claims it's the fastest and most efficient route versus the much less mountainous and much faster highway 101 route.
And the worst is it will silently reroute me... (1/n)

@mlanger ... way even when I tell it to take me on highway 101.
And highway 17 is a much more treacherous road especially at night or during rush hour.
It's been doing that for about a year now. It drives me nuts. And people who have flown into SFO and then driven down to see us have been lured onto that route not knowing.
Luckily I'm an obsessive map reader and I enjoy exploring alternative routes when I'm out and about so I understand where I'm driving. Otherwise yikes!
