   Posting something like "I sure am glad I don't live in the US because I don't have to worry about x, y, and z happening" has the same energy as saying to someone whose loved one just died, "I sure am glad MY loved ones haven't died because if they did here are the things I'd be sad and upset about."

     I really, really, REALLY don't want to be a dick and call out anyone specific for this but I have seen it on more than one occasion and I urge you, please don't be this person. It is not helpful to anyone.

     @AbandonedAmerica Not to mention, if people in the US have to worry about x, y, and z, you can be damn sure you’ll have to worry about x, y, and z soon enough. When the US coughs, the world gets ill. Just one of the many joys of global empire.

     @AbandonedAmerica @CStamp The US won't have a democracy to destroy until it realizes that one person one vote is what decides whether something is a democracy. The electoral college makes it into something else.

     @adritheonly @AbandonedAmerica @CStamp This time it wasn't even the electoral college directly (altho arguably indirectly by leading folks in solidly blue states to stay home). The deeper problems are media ownership, manipulation of information, and duration and expenditure on campaigns. Electoral democracy is not a very democratic system.
