The US population is less than 1/3rd China's population, and yet we have more people working in prison labor camps than China.

Most US prison labor camp employees, are innocent. As in, haven't been convicted of a crime, and are in jail pre-trial because they're Black and poor.

One of these pictures was taken during slavery, on a cotton plantation. The other 2 were taken a few years ago, on a "prison farm"

Black inmates are forced to pick cotton for free. We used to call prison farms "plantations." One of the photos below was taken during US slavery, before the emancipation of slaves. The other 2 are from the Angola prison farm in modern times. Can you tell which is which?

The only problem with the U9 is that unbeknownst to you, it monitors your thoughts and locks the doors and auto-drives you to a prison labor camp if it determines you are impure. Other than that it is a great car.

The US has the largest slave population in the world.

Locking an innocent person up under threat of death, and forcing them to work for you for free for years, is slavery.

While California was feeling smug about ourselves for voting for Harris, we also rejected a ballot initiative that would have prevented prison slave labor. We like enslaving people.

Sorry, not commenting on anything to do with China, so it is a bad analogy. The point you seemed to be making was that new better simpler to operate things are more attractive than kludgy complex things, like Mastodon. And, no argument that is absolutely true. And in many ways Mastodon is deficient, absolutely agreed. The point, and joke which obviously missed, is that those attractive things can come with strings attached.

100%. And it is about to get a lot bigger. And corporations turning over information from people's use of social media is going to be a big issue. Sorry, again for the confusing post above. The point was not about the relative incarceration regimes, but rather the risks associated with rushing to embrace the new shiny corporate social media alternative.

@mekkaokereke Yeah, that one is just wild. Like, the wording was so amazingly clear: Vote yes if you want to abolish slavery. And like 53% of people were like, "Nah, let's keep slavery around."

We are nowhere near as enlightened as so many people like to pretend we are.

Now you knew before you typed that, that of course we are.🇺🇸

Alabama uses the organs for medical students and pathology tests, without the prisoners' or family's consent. The University asks the prison that killed them for permission, and the prison always says yes.

      https://www.al.com/news/2024/02/archibald-alabama-prisoners-organs-vanish-and-theres-a-whole-lot-of-passing-the-buck-and-the-bodies.html

And Massachusetts tried to let falsely imprisoned people buy down their jail time by donating organs. Proposed by Democrats! 🙂🙃

I'll get behind you if you show me verifiable stats on the population of Chinese Uygur camps.

Please distinguish jail and prison. You go to jail before you are tried. There is no jail labor. After you are convicted for a term over a year, you go to prison. Yes, there is labor there.

🤣Why would I want a default elephant "behind me?"

I don't need weirdos confidently wrong in my mentions, presuming that their 3 second Google searches matches decades of scholarship and lived experience.

Look up "unconvicted incarcerated labor," and stop wasting my time. Go read up on how many unconvicted people in jail report being de facto forced to work pre-trial.
