TayFoNay, PsyD ☕️ (tayfonay@beige.party)'s status on Tuesday, 12-Nov-2024 23:40:59 JST TayFoNay, PsyD ☕️ Mark Zuckerberg’s compound on Kauai is an obvious sore spot for the locals. As you drive north along the main road you go past the back edge of it, where he’s bought a huge section of Kauai’s pristine northeast coastline. There are these stupid “private property” signs in Facebook blue. He raises cows that he feeds macadamia nuts from the trees he planted, you know to be normal. Zuck also grows various other foods, and recently built a bunch of “treehouses” for his friends to live in either when they visit or when the world goes to shit. He hires a lot of the local contractors so it’s hard for other projects to get done in a place where resources are already quite limited. He makes them sign an NDA to work there. There’s a public beach in front of his land where you can still get to with a little hike and climb and I guess recently Zuck started having his security harass locals trying to swim or go fishing at the beach, even though all beaches are public.
I like to imagine one day all the locals who he hired, and have intricate knowledge of the place, since they fucking built it, stage a revolt. They take it over, free the cows, eat the fruit and macadamia nuts, and have drunken parties in his 2 mansions and those fucking treehouses. While he cowers in his concrete bunker, never able to emerge to see that pristine land again.
Cory Doctorow repeated this.
