For me, the tempering factor was that as I got older and read more, and experienced different kinds of people (most unpleasant) who wanted better things for themselves and speak definitely about how they'll need to harm others to get better things for themselves, others they claim are violent, be the exact kind of thing that they chastise and claim to hate.
It always just seemed like they didn't want to be good people, they just wanted to be the bad guys. It's why over the course of the last six months I've just eased off a lot of my once held ideology. If ideology does not make you a better person and you seek to utilize that ideology to hurt others and be the thing you claim to hate, it's not a worthwhile ideology.

@Owl i once found out an acquaintance of mine was a member of 09A and fucked over a good friend of mine. I tended to agree with this acquaintance on about everything, doesn't matter, I still hope he rots. My friends living good now, but he's completely out of the movement. Gave me some advice and went completely off the radar after. What makes this even more telling is that he was basically born into the movement, had family links to Italian and Spanish fascists, and i think had family who worked in perus fascist regime. Despite all that, he's fully retired from the movement, got a wife, and unironically just wants to grill now.
Pieces of shit corrupting what should be a righteous cause have more of an effect than people want to think. Bad always drives out good.

@Owl @ClownPrimarch in the end, all you can really do is fight for what's yours and what belongs to you, and it shouldn't change your response what colors the bastards that come for those things wear. They should be treated the same.

The fact that O9A and Atomwaffen by extension exist are a testament to the notions you're putting forward here today. Whether people feel genuinely disenfranchised or not, they're using ideology to do heinous and reckless things that have nothing to do with making a society better, they just simply want to hurt others.
And even that behaviour is noticed here. People aren't Nazis because they want to do good to people, to even their people. They're Nazis because they want to say offensive things, do offensive things and just all around be a negative force and do the things they say they're against. Ideology has also sent me wayward in a similar vein. It's caused me to do and say horrible things. Nobody wants to admit this, but being the bad guy makes people feel good. And people clearly enjoy it. They're not getting better.
