What term do you use when talking about #xmpp with friends and family in the physical realm? “XMPP” is a bit of a mouthful, not quite as friendly as “signal” or “telegram”.

Mirko (owlcode@fosstodon.org)'s status on Sunday, 10-Nov-2024 06:04:08 JST Mirko @whynothugo interesting question. To simplify things I call it Conversations with my family. I know it is completely wrong but we use it pratically only from mobile and this is what they interact with.

"Snikket". Aware of the potential for bias because I started the project, but also important to note that it's *why* I started the project 🙂Unless you're in a technical discussion, pitching a protocol to someone has a 10% success rate or less in my experience. What people want is a name they can search for in app stores, and get something user-friendly that just works, with the features they expect. Not protocols, XEP lists and server compatibility charts.
