     Personally I think the glass roof could have been cool under different circumstances but given everything that happened it would have been wrong.

     Macron wanted to rebuild it as a modern reinterpretation of gothic architecture with a glass roof. Virtually everyone in the country said "fuck off, no, we're rebuilding it the way it was" and he backed down.
