I know it is hard for people to swallow, but Putin worked for the KGB in 1975, before the fall of the Berlin Wall with the associated history of Soviet Union occupied and governed East Germany... I think they had access to Nazi Germany psychology studies / experience and unethical experiments on changing behavior with messaging and memes.
"In saying this, I do not mean to imply that television news deliberately aims to deprive Americans of a coherent, contextual understanding of their world. I mean to say that when news is packaged as entertainment, that is the inevitable result." - New York City Neil Postman, 1985
re-read it and re-read it again. WE are LIVING in that __inevitable result__ in 2024. And really, relevant to Russia's meme warfare, we were in 2013 onward. The iPhone was created in mid 2007, Twitter in mid 2006.
I think Russia leaders are under the influence of their own meme systems. They THINK they can control it, but the dark desires of self-destruction and such from their generated artificial religion are leading them to bad places. And it is doing the same to USA.
It doesn't matter which political party, it's a function of self-destructive bend on it. It's a toxic artificial religion, faith in bad things.
Donald Trump, his voters, Biden, Kamala, news sites - they aren't all responsible. Russia is.
It is evolutionary flaws in human brain and self-awareness of what Finnegans Wake, Marshall McLuhan, Neil Postman expose. Smartphone machines and how we process and react to information can be self-destructive when we are fed a bad set of religion memes like Russia deployed.
We have become impatient, and as Joseph Campbell explains in Power of Myth 1988 book, our classic religions cast hate upon out-groups. Even within the same religion, such as Islam, people fragment into Shia vs. Sunni and hate upon out-groups.
Russia's Surkov and Putin weaponized this behavior, and our fast lane society with smartphones we have all become intoxicated by these Russian bends in our mind.
What I'm trying to say on November 8, 2024 is this:
1. Don't blame Trump, don't blame the newspaper owners, don't blame Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch. Since March 2013 they have ALL fallen under influence of Russian meme warfare messaging.
Study Neil Postman's 1985 book, Amusing Ourselves To Death, you have to face that the human brain was NOT MADE for TV news and smartphones, and why we all were vulnerable in the first place.
But they are self-destructive to Russia too. They are powerful in wrecking things.
If these meme systems Russia created actually had parents get along with children better, communicated spouses with each other, I'd be supporting them. But they wreck these sort of things, even in domestic Russia. They are like meth drug in the sense that the side-effects / negatives outweighs the positives.
I come to this conclusion from Canada's Marshall McLuhan on Finnegans Wake, my own experience with the Arab Spring in late 2009 and all 2010 and Syria war outbreak in 2011. And my own first hand experience with social media since age 13 onward, and the perspective of my own autistic brain being "an outsider" to social systems... but really Marshall MccLuhan's insights on Finnegans Wake by James Joyce is learnable by anyone.
People in the USA changed, I noticed it most heavily on Reddit in 2013 and 2014, it was a pretty big shift in attitudes and impatience with people. Most people noticed it on Twitter and Facebook.
I don't think Donald Trump, his family, or Elon Musk understand what has been done to their minds. I don't think any in the USA are taking this seriously when self-destruction is all over within USA.
our computerized media systems, rapid fragmented personalized delivery of news and gossip / rumors has also played a big role. Which is why Marshall McLuhan's 1950's and `1960's perspectives are important.. to put one in perspective to just what Internet and smartphones have done to make us blind to Russia's meme warfare. Neil Postman is also important.
September 11, 2001 also had meme system clashes of old religions and wars that helped set the stage for the 2013 onward Russian meme war.
I think Surkov and Putin have full faith in creating artificial religions, artificial faith systems. Especially ones that favor self-destruction and dehumanization. I think they experimented on this in scale that Peter Pomerantsev describes in domestic Russia, but they also developed export models - likely with Cambridge Analytica augmentation.
Putin does not doubt these things work, he deploys them, he doesn't care about past religions, just that his meme systems work. Like advertising works
