One thing I said in 2020 that I'll say again: this is a very negative electorate and it's a negative partisanship electorate. Republicans hate Democrats. Democrats hate Republicans. There is no common ground. The old politics are dead. Homilies about bipartisanship don't sell to anyone. They just make you sound stupid or worse, like a traitor. People want someone to blame and the most spiteful ones voted for Trump. A lot of other people just didn't want more of the same.

Trump played to people's bigotries and status anxieties over the economy and a changing culture, but less successfully than people insist, as his vote total actually dropped.
None of these examples are meant to "explain" the election individually. Overall, this was a very jaded electorate who wanted change and the opportunity to punish someone.

For a lot of people, the Trump years were a TV drama that didn't affect them until COVID, and some people are inclined to treat COVID as a fluke, an act of god, and not his fault.
But they think he'll stick it to the establishment.

Which unfortunately Biden and Democrats doubled down on by talking up the "Biden Boom" and basically ignoring the cost of living crisis for everyone in the lower half of the economy. They could have at least aggressively campaigned against corporate greed but they opted not to.
Investors were doing great!
AnthonyJK-Admin repeated this.
