@selea for me, it's usually thinking about how the conversation is heading. If I feel like I'm going to be misunderstood, or there's a bit of miscommunication/bad faith going on, yeah I don't press that send button. Why start that useless chain of events?
It's an optimisation thingy. Helps to avoid a lot of wasted time, energy and upsetting interactions at times.

Yes exactly this, it is just not worth the time being missunderstood because it is over text and english is not my primary language :P
