kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 22:17:26 JST kaia contraintuitively one button is not simpler, because increased abstraction obfuscates what it's doing. simpler is when it has a wattage and time selector and nothing else. -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 22:19:08 JST SuperDicq @kaia@brotka.st Yeah every microwave got these settings for different food types and other bullshit that automatically set time and wattage and stuff, including the famous "popcorn button" if you watch Technology Connections.
In my opinion all a microwave needs is time and wattage, nothing else.kaia likes this. -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 22:20:42 JST SuperDicq @kaia@brotka.st My current microwave is actually a bit annoying. You can select just wattage and time, but the selectable wattage options are just 300, 600 and 900, while most recipes require 750 watt...

(For those who haven't heard of it, those two are really locked together and yes, it's as stupid as it sounds.)

Well I disagree,
You only need one button that adds 30s to the timer and starts microwaving at 800W. It stops and resets when you open the door. Done.kaia likes this.
