   I found it a reality check the first time I realized I was older than the Prime Minister.

   Then I did a double-take: "no, this just means I'm growing old".

   Many of us have unexamined (and toxic) expectations of social/workplace status increasing linearly with age, and get angry if reminded that it can stagnate and decline instead.

     I'm reminded of a fellow, upon learning his superior was going to be a woman "I can't be commanded by a bird!". It wasn't said nastily, just in shock and disbelief.

     Like this went against the rules of the world.

     Also people resenting hugely their superiors being younger than themselves. I've seen that so many times.

     Like this was a personal affront.

     This is the world we live in. This is the change that will happen, in time.
