In software engineering jargon...
I think its past time we all decoupled from the US government!
Yes, this is an issue outside the US too!

@steeph @alcinnz off the top of my head, I'm thinking protectionism/tariffs: make it more expensive trading with US, start build our own (in my case, EU) stuff.
To further reference the software world, it's perhaps not ideal that so much of our IT infrastructure is in the hands of a handful of American gigacorps.
Maybe more concrete, take the Russian invasion seriously, stepping up our support of Ukraine. US isn't a reliable ally here.
@alcinnz Well, I, for one, am not sure how you mean that.
@steeph In other words: Rely less on government. US government especially.
Maybe there's a local community group(s) you can join? Or failing that, help found?
This refactor could take a while, so I don't expect anyone to drop the dependency entirely!
@steeph Basically the sorts of things @ajroach42 is doing! Worth a follow!
My question (continuing with the tech jargon...):
What'll you do to reduce your community's coupling to your government?
How'll you help build a kinder more environmental future no matter what your government says?
@alcinnz
If local government denies a street crossing on schoolway:
Start to add markings (2 dotted lines) on the asphalt at existing crossings.
Town does not maintain cycle signs or clears glass:
Readd self made signs and sweep glass from the paths.
