   @mstar @enigmatico I'm pretty sure its a general rule. They even made the Swiss do it, so they have some fucking weird laws there.
   
   like the naturalization requirement is lower for an american passport, because they like us, but actually getting the job is harder.
   
   (the swiss also basically ban you from getting a student visa if you're 30 years old but that's not an EU-wide policy)

     @enigmatico @mstar the rule doesn't apply to student visas afaik so if a job can be done on one of those (though the jobs allowed on student visas tend to be limited anyway) then it can probably be done.
     
     but its really annoying. and your job security kinda doesn't exist. (like, the swiss can and have mass cancelled american worker visas for literally no reason before)

     @icedquinn@blob.cat @mstar@woem.men AFAIK here in Spain there is A LOT of people from outside of the US that came with a passport and didn't have any problems. Mostly from Latin America (Ecuador, Puerto Rican, Peruvians...) and also from China.
     
     I don't know if this is a special case, like if the Spanish government has some kind of treaty with those countries, but I don't think so. Since I'm not an outsider I'm not well informed on the requisites and conditions, but I know that providing that you don't have any criminal records and that you have your papers in order, you shouldn't have much problem.

     @enigmatico @mstar https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/londres/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/Visado-de-trabajo-por-cuenta-ajena.aspx looks like you have to be in a whitelisted profession or otherwise issued specific authorization from the government

     tl;dr standard european fare; they have to allow EU passport holders due to the EU freedom of movement, but everyone else has to fuck off unless they're desperate

     the swiss specifically are hyper xenophobic, other european countries don't even come close
     
     try the netherlands or norway instead
