iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Nov-2024 22:02:29 JST iced depresso @mstar @enigmatico I'm pretty sure its a general rule. They even made the Swiss do it, so they have some fucking weird laws there.
like the naturalization requirement is lower for an american passport, because they like us, but actually getting the job is harder.
(the swiss also basically ban you from getting a student visa if you're 30 years old but that's not an EU-wide policy)-

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Nov-2024 22:04:55 JST iced depresso @enigmatico @mstar the rule doesn't apply to student visas afaik so if a job can be done on one of those (though the jobs allowed on student visas tend to be limited anyway) then it can probably be done.
but its really annoying. and your job security kinda doesn't exist. (like, the swiss can and have mass cancelled american worker visas for literally no reason before) -

【Ξnigmatico】:misskey: (enigmatico@mk.absturztau.be)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Nov-2024 22:10:00 JST 【Ξnigmatico】:misskey: @icedquinn@blob.cat @mstar@woem.men AFAIK here in Spain there is A LOT of people from outside of the US that came with a passport and didn't have any problems. Mostly from Latin America (Ecuador, Puerto Rican, Peruvians...) and also from China.
I don't know if this is a special case, like if the Spanish government has some kind of treaty with those countries, but I don't think so. Since I'm not an outsider I'm not well informed on the requisites and conditions, but I know that providing that you don't have any criminal records and that you have your papers in order, you shouldn't have much problem. -

> The most direct (but not the easiest) way to work in Spain is to apply for a regular work permit. This is usually a very complex and almost impossible process due to its complicated requirements: First, you will have to initiate the process from your home country. Unlike some of the options discussed below, in this case, you cannot be in Spain when you start the application procedure. To do so, the first thing you will have to do is to find a company willing to hire you and manage the application. That is to say, to receive a job offer. But not just any job offer will work, since it must be included in what is known as a shortage occupation list or a list of jobs that are difficult to cover. In other words, in order to respect the national unemployment situation, priority is given to legal residents and Spanish nationals with the vast majority of job offers, so that as a foreigner you will only be able to apply for a very small number of them. The exception to this rule is Peruvian and Chilean citizens, to whom the national unemployment situation does not apply and who can benefit from any job offer.

tl;dr standard european fare; they have to allow EU passport holders due to the EU freedom of movement, but everyone else has to fuck off unless they're desperate -
