way dumber. some shit about the founder making a george floyd comment which made people mad, and then some guy drowned at the crossfit games which has everyone clutching their pearls
sometimes people die in high level competition, especially if they've been dabbling in PEDs. sounds like they should've had better safety standards at the event, but dude was probably toast anyway

@skylar @deprecated_ii @Meat_Mom bruh, a 3.5 mile run is just a 5k. it's a race that kids do.

@deprecated_ii They made competitors do a long-distance swim right after a marathon lol he was probably exhausted and had a bunch of cramps in the middle of a lake
You would think they wanted someone to die on purpose

@Meat_Mom it was a 3.5 mile run and 1/2 mile swim. not far in either case

@deprecated_ii @skylar @Meat_Mom Crossfit's greatest problem is that it's predicated upon "group high-intensity competitive weight training" where the exercises are performed for time. This racks up massive injury rates, particularly among new members who aren't basically college athletes
It'll get you fit as hell until you tear your shoulder doing something stupid, and there is no compelling evidence that it produces better athletes for other disciplines

@skylar @Meat_Mom it's not, it's basically sprint triathlon distances without the bike. I assume the exact distances were chosen because of the venue
apparently a lot of these so-called athletes are not good swimmers though. probably didn't specifically train for it at all

@KarlDahl @skylar @Meat_Mom I heard about people getting rhabdo and decided to stay away
also the daily workouts I looked at (10 years ago) were nuts. no way most people can do them with good form
then you get people using steroids and doing high volume and it's basically a guaranteed soft tissue injury

@deprecated_ii @skylar @Meat_Mom I worked with a gal about ten years younger than me who did Crossfit for years. She always talked about preparing for The Crossfit Games, then would get an injury that knocked her out of it
I've never injured myself in the gym because I'm not a gay retard, but what do I know

@KarlDahl @deprecated_ii @skylar @Meat_Mom I've injured myself in the gym and I'm NOT a gay retard.
Heavy weights plus not paying enough attention to your form is a recipe for not fun. Lesson learned though - when you start doing heavy weights and start getting tired, just lower reps or slow the speed. It's hard when you're plateauing, but getting injured is worse.

@sickburnbro @deprecated_ii @skylar @Meat_Mom Very true. I always injure myself doing something stupid that I would never do in a gym, like a highly articulated moving of an extremely heavy item without skeletal support. In fairness, that is even more gay and retarded than overdoing it in the gym
