   @ben @dalias I have used Kasa, Sonoff and Tapo units. The Tapo P110 was completely unfit for purpose. Every single one failed within months. None of my P100s has done so.

   However, all are vulnerable to failure if you lose Wi-Fi but they retain enough power to turn on/off - - they click like mad looking for it. OK if you're home (had such an outage recently--low mains voltage). If I'd been away I suspect they'd be kaput after a while.

     @samueljohnson @ben If I wanted remote switchable plugs I'd just DIY it, so much easier than video. No fancy protocols, codecs, hw access involved, just one GPIO pin to a mains voltage SSR (or even MOSFET controlling a mechanical relay).

     @dalias @samueljohnson For most of mine, it's not so much the switching as the consumption reporting that's useful - is the tumbledryer/dishwasher/whatever using lots or is it idle?
