@jami @Klaxun SMRs can be tiny and don't need a source of water; they're completely self-contained. There are even designs that are self-contained. You could put one in your basement. I don't know what design they're looking at deploying though, but there are some super interesting ones out there.

This is a good thing, we need big tech to actually make these things a reality instead of them staying in the lab for another 30 years

Why not invest in solar and wind instead? Those things carry much lower risk.

@Klaxun @jami because you need 24/7 stable power generation for a datacenter which you won't get from wind and solar.

And the risk of an SMR is not what people think.

How Far Do You Have To Run After A Small Modular Nuclear Meltdown?
        from James Conca
It turns out you don’t have to run at all. They can’t melt down and NRC just concluded that any possible emergencies won’t even get past the fence. No need to come up with huge evacuation plans for nearby cities or surrounding people - you can just stand at the fence and watch what’s going on.

@notsoloud @jami @Klaxun The three that seem most likely to get installed are Rolls Royce (Oracle might be getting 3 of these? They got licenses approved anyway), Westinghouse, and NuScale. I don't know enough about what differentiates their specific designs though.

Are they SMRs? When can they finish construction?
