     Exactly! That's why they do it. They get a response (attention) that reinforces the behavior. you could pay them in peanuts.

     @georgetakei i visited a friend recently, who has been taking care of two red ara. They were quiet when we went into the room they were in (they climbed around freely) but when we sat down to eat, downstairs we could hear them swearing and yelling at each other and cursing us for chickens, and cackling

     It was friggin hilarious.
