Honestly, if you’re in the US, please vote. Don’t let a fascist take control. Don’t think that it can’t possibly happen there. This might be your last chance to vote. Don’t waste it. Sitting it out won’t help your cause but it will definitely endanger a lot of lives. That’s my take on it.
@Gargron Whether it's Trump or Harris, a fascist is going to win the U.S. presidential election. Those of us opposed to fascism can vote for Jill Stein. Even though it's clear she's not going to win, we have the opportunity to build an anti-fascist alternative in American politics.
@Gargron Indeed. Voted early for Harris-Walz. And stretching the meaning of the word #fascist to claim that both candidates are fascist doesn't change the reality. The USA has always had fascistic elements. But only #Trump will set up an overt fascist dictatorship. And if he wins, any and ALL approaches to making a better world will become 1000 times harder. I cast Green Party protest votes in 2016 and 2020, when Trump would not have been able to realize his fascist dream. Not this time.
@Gargron Even if you take the replies at face value, too many people seem to think the POTUS is a ceremonial position, and so voting or not on principle without regard to the actual outcome is a meaningful thing.
Results matter. They have consequences. A vote which increases the chances of Trump winning ONLY means a higher chance of Trump winning.
@Gargron tRump and his campaign manager Paul Manafort colluded with Russia in 2016; in 2020 he colludes with Rudy Colludy, and now he is colluding with broligarch Elon Musk!
@WAHa_06x36 I have seen no credible evidence that Jill Stein is in any sense "Putin's puppet."
As for Kamala Harris being a fascist, she's in the pocket of moneyed interests and supports a militaristic foreign policy, including full throated support for Israel's ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.
@gwm Come on. It's 2024. At this point you need to be able bring yourself to admit that Jill Stein is Putin's puppet. She is supported by one of the biggest fascists in power today.
It would be lovely to have a viable green party in the US. But *you don't have that*. You have a Russian op. Jill Stein is not what you want.
Harris is far from perfect, but is also nowhere near is a fascist. Trump and Jill Stein, however, literally are.
@Gargron Thank you for this important reminder, Eugen. Many of us can feel the weight of this election and the consequences it may bring. Every vote is a chance to protect the values we hold dear and to support leaders who respect democracy and human rights. Sitting out isn’t an option when so much is at stake—not just for us, but for future generations. Let’s all show up, stay engaged, and make sure our voices count.
Thank you for using your platform to encourage participation!
@Gargron And just so we're clear, Jill Stein is not who to vote for. Jill Stein will not win. Even if you despise Harris, pinch your nose and vote for her, because if you vote Harris you'll be able to vote again in 2028, and on all the issues that matter her stance is closer to correct than Trump's. If you vote Trump you won't necessarily. If you vote Stein...well, in 2016, Russia meddled in favor of Stein, which should tell you enough to know not to vote for her (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/russians-launched-pro-jill-stein-social-media-blitz-help-trump-n951166).
Even if you're not based in the US, if you're an American citizen you can vote from whatever country you're currently living in. Many states are still accepting new registrations, but hurry - there's no time to lose. Please go to https://votefromabroad.org, register and request a ballot right away!
@Gargron Your take is 100% correct...which is why I wrote this parody of DJT set to American Psycho... feel free to share. https://youtu.be/1946TRPdT8s
"Many Palestinians in Gaza tend to hope that Harris will win over Republican candidate Donald Trump, whom Palestinians consider one of the US presidents who they believe greatly harmed the Palestinian cause."
@gpilz@WAHa_06x36@gwm what makes you think trump doesn't support any genocide. god, he even wants to genocide the hispanic part of your own population. that is the problem.
@gpilz@WAHa_06x36@gwm i mean have you guys even asked the palestinians, like those IN PALESTINE what candidate they prefer? maybe someone should do that.
@gpilz@gwm Because THAT IS NOT FUCKING TRUE, that's why. That is just not true, and that is propaganda you have been fed, and happily accepted, because you are clearly fucking naïve.
@WAHa_06x36@gwm - I'm sure Biden and Harris would have done something to stop the slaughter in Gaza if only they could have figured out who was supplying Israel money and weapons. Its a mystery.
@WAHa_06x36@gwm - I'm not naive. My problem is that I don't consider the people who live in the U.S. to be more worthy of consideration than everyone else.
@gpilz@gwm You are absolutely fucking naïve as shit, and I don't give a single fuck about the people who live in the US here. I don't live there. I want people in Gaza to stop dying and your absurd and simplified view of the world is making you act to make things worse for them.
@WAHa_06x36@gwm - if you want the people in Gaza to stop dying, why would you vote for someone who has repeatedly indicated, *through* *her* *actions*, that she has absolutely no intention of doing a single thing to make that happen?
@WAHa_06x36@gwm - how many dead children does it take to change Harris' mind on the ongoing mass murder in Palestine? If she were capable of having her mind changed, she would have changed it by now.
@gpilz@gwm And you think you're going to change *Trump's* mind then? You think he's going to stop the war? The guy who thinks Gaza would make great beachfront property? The guy who meets with Netanyahu in private?
Or are you also a selfish fuck who just doesn't care about outcomes and only care about your own ideological purity?
@WAHa_06x36@gwm - the difference between Trump and Harris w/regards to the mass murder in Palestine is that Trump will say "I'm glad. I hate Palestinians". Meanwhile Harris will wring her hands and describe how terrible she feels about the whole thing, yadda, yadda, ...
@WAHa_06x36@baconandcoconut You seem to believe that I had an ethical duty to vote for Kamala Harris. That was never going to happen. She disqualified herself by supporting genocide.
@gwm I don't think you had a "duty" to do anything. I think you wanted to do something - prevent genocide - and you made a choice that ended up hurting that goal. That has nothing to do with "duty", and everything to do with how things work in practice.
@gwm@WAHa_06x36 There's a lot of space between "intermittently beholden to some corporate interests" and "we won't have elections anymore and will violently round up our political adversaries." Neither is ideal but one is clearly better.
