This fits with the NPC theory that bored memesters talk about. Or, more likely, they're just first graders who are goofing off and figured if they weren't allowed to do it an adult would intervene.

@BowsacNoodle @whiteman_ Yeah, I think it didn't occur to the the researchers that if a machine looks like a machine, it doesn't raise anyone's hackles, but if a machine tries to mimic a human, this bothers even children.

Hopefully those researchers didn't write down the kid's name, or at least didn't leave a digital trail.
