The classic railway line from Málaga, as seen from the Caminito del Rey. Not a great spot for train spotting as guided tours are mandatory on this very touristic walk in a natural park, and there's little train traffic on this single-lane railway since the new high-speed line was built, but nonetheless spectacular!
And that's a wrap! In the grim Barcelona Sants underground station (white neon lights everywhere 🔦). But I take good trains over good stations any time.
Málaga's metro is - let's be honest - peculiar. Gigantic metro stations that you'd expect from a major city, complete with superimposed tunnels & platforms. But then the actual metro is underwhelming: just an average tram running every 10 minutes, or 7 minutes at rush hour.
It makes one wonder whether an overground tram network wouldn't have been more efficient. The answer is that line 2 runs below a 2x2-lane boulevard. #subway#infrastructure#Malaga
While SNCF focuses on handing out hefty fines to passengers who forgot their luggage tags, Renfe staff just goes around handing out the tags free of charge to be put on luggage "at your convenience". 💯
Handing out fines isn't a matter of French law, it's a matter of SNCF policy. Not sure if Renfe would skip calling anti-terrorist police for each forgotten bag on French territory, but there's anyway a clear difference in behavior & welcoming the passengers. 😊
Incidentally someone asked me as they were very confused that they couldn't buy a ticket for Barcelona at the (SNCF) ticket machine. No Renfe machine around. The train was anyway sold out for last-minute sales, but that must be really confusing, and they for sure got no slower alternative proposed via regional trains if they really needed to get there today or tomorrow. #CrossBorderRail#SNCF#Renfe
Happy to report that the stupid platform check-in gates are not used by Renfe's AVE in Lyon. However they have one staff member *per door* browsing the tickets. Not even scanning them (that's done in the train), just checking passengers have a ticket. Seems a bit overkill to have so many members of staff for 1 train. 🤔
Spotted a few #CyclingOnRails practitioners (a couple with packed bicycles & someone with an assembled mountain bike). They got sent by Renfe staff to the end of the train, and must have put the bicycles in a secret room (unless they already got off in Valence TGV 🤔) as I didn't see bicycles anywhere. #BicicletaEnElTren
It's in fact a fully-themed #CyclingOnRails train, with an exhibition of Tour de France pictures up to the early 2000s (celebrating spanish cyclists). With the motto: "objective Paris", Renfe isn't planning to stop in Lyon (when their new trains get approved).
Full moon, sunrise & beetroot stations - olive edition. 🫒 So far West in the central European timezone the sun only rose above the clouds at about 8:45.
