    I hope the system kicks both T-Mobile and AT&T down a peg.

    Locked phones are not good for users, and if you do one of their payment plans, they design those so that when you pay off the device, you're already out of warranty, so you may not know there is something wrong with your phone.

    My Google Pixel 7 was very hard to unlock, and they are still trying to argue that "carrier unlock" and "bootloader unlock" were two different things. Originally, my device would do neither. I paid my decide off early too, but by then, it was still out of warranty.

    I like the idea of the 60 days time limit, even if T-Mobile and ATT would like to keep you locked down forever.

      @Linux I can't see this take effect though as Big Telecom is trying to convince judges and the Supreme Court as we speak to kill all broadband and wireless federal and state authorities to protect consumers and they may very well get their wish thanks to the death of the Chevron difference.

      @joeo10@mastodon.sdf.org That's old news (from August), and no longer current. The ruling to reinstate net neutrality, passed, much to everyone's surprise. I guess, even the Mega nut jobs, don't like the nonsense most ISPs were paying.

      @Linux The fact is that Net Neutrality will be a early causality in a post-Chevron world. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/08/fcc-suffers-major-setback-in-attempt-to-defend-net-neutrality-rules/

        Court blocks net neutrality, says ISPs are likely to win case against FCC
        It’s not over, but three judges said ISPs “are likely to succeed on the merits.”…

      @Linux Also from Karl's piece: https://www.techdirt.com/2024/08/19/big-telecom-asks-the-corrupt-supreme-court-to-declare-all-state-and-federal-broadband-consumer-protection-illegal-they-might-get-their-wish/

      "Again, post-Chevron, some variation of this is going to be playing out in every industry that touches your lives. Logic or precedent be damned, corporate lawyers are going to argue that every consumer protection, public safety, environmental, or campaign finance regulator in the country can’t enforce or create new protections without the approval of FedSec judges or a corrupt Congress."

      @Linux All do respect of course since you share great stuff but I trust Karl Bode with this as he has been in the telecom, broadband, and wireless beats for over 20+ years and he knows what he's talking about when he said that this is going to be bad in the long run.

      You have to understand that old news sometimes is still relevant and this is a great example.

      @joeo10@mastodon.sdf.org I'm going to block you as spam, if you show me another link from August 2024. As I said, that is old news, and not current.

      @Linux Another example: Earlier today, Intuit (makers of TurboTax) tried to censor part of the interview that Nilay gave today on his Decoder podcast because of the 2019 ProPublica story on them Lobbying to prevent Americans from filing their taxes for free. https://mastodon.sdf.org/@joeo10/113346755160466387

        This is surely not a good look for Intuit as they tried but thankfully failed to delete and censor a part of the interview that Nilay Patel did on the Decoder podcast with its CEO Sasan Goodarzi about tax reform in the US and on why they keep lobbying to prevent free tax filing in the US. The headline speaks for itself. https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/21/24273820/intuit-ceo-sasan-goodarzi-turbotax-irs-quickbooks-ai-software-decoder-interview #censorship #podcast #tax #taxes #taxfiling
