edshot99...and third times a charm. First time using "Fediverse" with my own server and Pleroma went fine somewhat, but I never liked the mess and how everything was broken. Especially having to pass the connection from relayd to nginx and sometimes to httpd and then to Pleroma. Now with new OpenBSD version it won't even load at all. Well. Good riddence I suppose.
Second time using "Fediverse", but this time with GNU Social. There is five different websites for some reason... not a good start! Everything is very smoother compared to the shit show I had with Pleroma. Too bad the performance with GNU Social is really really bad even with opcache, redis, etc. I still don't like half the plugins for GNU Social are broken and how some things can't be changed such as the inability to stop everything being saved in awful webp. Worst part, posting doesn't work. Nothing in logs...
Third time using "Fediverse", but this time I scrap my own and use 076. Why not use them in the first place knowing full well that "Linux only" software never goes well on OpenBSD? Well. The only reason I even got "interested" in SNS is because of how the majority of people really love using it for communications. Although I am quite opposed to this new style of communication and prefer a good ol' BBS I still have concerns with this. So as much as I don't like SNS, I think it would be a mistake to not support this. What would I rather have in the future: people using an SNS where they are locked and limited to powerful companies or people who can run their own and not be limited? Ok, valid reason for supporting SNS, but what not promote 076 SNS? Well... although 076 does promote free as in freedom speech the biggest problem I see is the inappropiate artwork being shown in the clear.
I do not care for people posting this stuff as long it isn't hardcore (as in being beaten and bleeding and what not), but of course in my area most people are going to see that and be quite upset! Hence why I wanted to create my own SNS to "censor" the content. Now I do not mean censor as in deleting or blocking the content, but more of having that "this content is not appropiate" overlay on it. Of course this becomes complicated since manually marking images is just too time consuming and unrealistic, but I am sure I could figure something out.
Why not just simply block or delete the content? Well because this is never the right thing to do! Unless the content is very bad or contains links to actual onion real life pedophilia rings, then I don't think deleting is an option! I have my own reasons for why I practice this simply put.
So. If this idea is so good, why am I here? Well. Let's just say all Fediverse software is very bad. I don't have time to make my own either. I also think it's a very good idea to actually get a feel for SNS and to see if people will actually use and like such a service. It would be quite silly to spend an entire year or more developing a SNS program that regular people see no interest in. It is also silly to develop one when I don't really have much experience with actually using one.
Ultimately I must try out SNS more and see how things work and how things actually are. On one hand I have a gut feeling that supporting a free SNS program/service is a waste of time since most people are "robot" like and will stick with whatever is popular (as I somewhat talked about before here https://social.076.ne.jp/notice/AKIGYGDCp1zAFgRvHM) On the other hand when a popular program/service is very bad to the point where the user gets tired of it, they will be willing to try (as also mentioned in that link above).
Who knows. Maybe I will enjoy using a free SNS program/service :^^^

Yes I have the same feeling. I think the ryo and suwako are doing that on purpose for some reason. Ryo has been trying to mention and challenge the leftist admins to get this instance blocked, kinda like declaring wars, with pride IMO (https://social.076.ne.jp/notice/APQMPCO5TJhQZzjREe). Maybe they want to prevent leftists using this instance and bringing in dramas, so they just outright post the things they are supposed to hate the most? But I think the way they do that will attract trolls or low quality users too, seeing the walls of porn artwork posted by the admins. Of course we can block or mute users individually if we are bothered, but to this instance it may not be healthy.
I think it's just better for the admins to be neutral, and ignore the complaints (In my impression Japanese instances in general have done a good job on that). Legit users can judge the instance themselves, without the admins stating their stances (and in our case, not in a very good way...) and there would be less unwanted attention. Maybe if they want they can have a non-admin alts that post the walls of porn.
And yes about the images, even not all people hate porn, not all people want to see porn at the wrong time, so I think it's better to encourage users to label them themselves. Also many images are posted in a large amount and without sources to the artist, so they look like a spam to me.

Rather, I pro-actively make them block this instance before they decide to take this instance down somehow. In the age of cancer culture, it's better to get rid of the trash early than it is to let the trash get rid of you.
In the case of Suwako, she's banned from literally everywhere, and just likes good drawings. Just like me, she doesn't really give a fuck, but also sees how the boot is squashing all our faces harder and harder by the day, so I guess a good way to counter that is to exactly do what both the left and the right, as well as the obsoletes don't like.
@ryo@edshot99 > Rather, I pro-actively make them block this instance before they decide to take this instance down somehow.
I don't see how that prevents them bringing this instance down though, to me it does the opposite. Won't they get even excited if they saw some proud challengers? (You would be one of the first target if I were a SJW)
@udon@edshot99 In a sense I actually want them to cancer me off the clearnet entirely, regardless of what instance I'm using. I only hope they target specifically me rather than an entire instance however.
Just look at the clearnet in current year, more and more websoytes get Cuckflared, it even got to the point that we now have only Big Tech, AWS/Cuckflare (name is a parody on "GNU/Linux"), and this very tiny niche of actually independent websites being forced into a sharp corner.
Just an hour ago I saw somebody called me on my phone, so I looked up the number to see which company was trying to reach out to me, but every single phone number lookup soyte is Cuckflared, so I have to wait until tomorrow morning to call back in order to know who the fuck called me.
Hell, even searx.org is now Cuckflared, while searx.be's results are the worst (literally the identical result times 10 per page). Meanwhile, on 4n53nafyi77iplnbrpmxnp3x4exbswwxigujaxy3b37fvr7bvlopxeyd.onion I'm getting great search results. That's why I see the darknet as the only true solution to clearnet problem.
@ryo@udon I think paying attention to which server or servers blocked you is a waste of time since people are always going to do this regardless. I think trying to get banned from every other server is a waste of time since more productive things can be done and you don't have to do much at all to get banned.
>In a sense I actually want them to cancer me off the clearnet entirely Why? It is not like people will succeed with this. The only time where I have seen a website get "cancelled" is websites like Kick Ass Torrents or Library Genesis. Even in those situations it isn't ICANN or the domain name company who cuts them off, but the company where they get their domain name from who cooperates with the government.
>Just look at the clearnet in current year, more and more websoytes get Cuckflared Most of the websites are not worth browsing in the first place.
>so I have to wait until tomorrow morning to call back in order to know who the fuck called me I used to have this problem with relying on terrible websites and I typically just try to find or build alternatives to avoid being in this situations. Most of the time when someone calls me who isn't in my contacts list I ignore it. If they don't call me again then it probably isn't important for me. On the chance I do answer it ends up being some stupid bot that immediately hangs up three seconds later.
Anyways whenever I have to deal with a site like this in the rare case that I really need to access it I do this trick. 1. dnscrypt-proxy, tor, and firefox on system. 2. In Firefox disable routing DNS through SOCKS5. 3. Go to dnsleaktest.com 4. Check your IP address and DNS. 5. If your IP is a tor IP and your DNS is from dnscrypt-proxy then continue 6. Access the Cloudflare website and modify uMatrix to let Cloudflare do its stupid shit
Also I find that every other searx instance is unreliable and had to run my own after searx.me died. So when using other searx instances its more of a matter of finding one with a "clean" connection and that isn't broken.
>That's why I see the darknet as the only true solution to clearnet problem People can still run shitty javascript websites on "darknets" and transfer all the garbage from clearnet and run it on these "darknets". The only difference is how you access it.
@edshot99@udon > I think paying attention to which server or servers blocked you is a waste of time since people are always going to do this regardless.
On the flipside, it doubles as advertisement. Where the one side wants you silenced to death, the other side will take it as a confirmation that you're a decent instance.
> Why? It is not like people will succeed with this.
I already explained why in the same status, so I don't think I need to explain it a 2nd time.
> The only time where I have seen a website get "cancelled" is websites like Kick Ass Torrents or Library Genesis. Even in those situations it isn't ICANN or the domain name company who cuts them off, but the company where they get their domain name from who cooperates with the government.
Obviously, I mean "me" as in "me", not "me" as in "the entire website".
> People can still run shitty javascript websites on "darknets" and transfer all the garbage from clearnet and run it on these "darknets".
I haven't encountered much of these. Most are actually just HTML + CSS + images. Probably the one that actually relies on JS is some anon webchat service, but then again it's understandable why you'd use JS for that. Websoytes that rely on JS while they would have been built without it perfectly fine is what I usually have a problem with. Why the fuck do I even need to get myself a 32 Tebibyte RAM Core i21 with 100 million trillion cores just to read somebody else's travel blog and still experience lag for example!?
