   A thread on my reasons and plan for a final burst of fundraising for Harris for President via Mastodon for Harris, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris.

   Our fundraiser has been successful beyond what I could have imagined when I started it with a target of $1000. The total raised as of this post is $650,592.73. I have set one more goal, probably the final one before Election Day. The current target is $675,000. Why bother trying to raise another $25,000? Why should folks on Mastodon donate now? 1/

     The main reason to donate to Mastodon for Harris, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris, remains what it has always been. The Harris-Walz campaign needs every dollar it can raise, because it has to reach every last voter it can and prepare for post-election efforts by Trump et al to subvert a Harris-Walz win. 2/

     The swing states are likely to be hotly contested right down to the wire, which means that literally evey last possible Harris voter must be located, persuaded, and motivated to actually cast a ballot. This is why the Harris campaign is sending high profile surrogates like Bill Clinton to rural Georgia while why Harris is doing multiple events in different parts of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/10/14/trump-harris-election-campaign-schedules/75669934007/ These visible efforts cost money to host and hold. 3/

     Important election litigation is already taking place and will continue right up to, and probably after the vote counting. While the Harris campaign is not directly a party to every case, the Harris legal wing is providing research and litigation support, I’m sure. And ultimately the campaign itself will probably have to go to court to ensure that all votes are counted and certified and to defend nonsense claims about nonexistent fraud. This sort of ongoing litigation operation is expensive. 5/

     Again, the main and overriding reason to continue giving what you can to Harris for President via Mastodon for Harris, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris, is that the campaign needs every dollar it can raise, to locate, persuade, and get out every possible vote and then to defend counting and certifying the vote totals.      There’s another reason to give again to Mastodon for Harris or to give for the first time, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris. When you do, you will feel yourself actively part of an amazing community which has operationalized their support for Harris. I know that every time I’ve made an effort for this fundraiser I have rejuvenated my faith in my fellow progressives. I have made myself really, fully understand that I am so not alone in my fight for American constitutional democracy and rule of law. 7/

     Beyond rallies, though, the Harris campaign is spending money to reach voters through every last avenue: added texting, phone banking, and door knocking, including by volunteers fluent in Spanish. The New York Times reports that Harris has hired organizers specifically for the final weeks of the campaign. Salaries and office overhead must be paid. 4/
