   People aren’t rising through merit currently, they’re complaining about equity and playing oppression Olympics.

   The idea that I don't go through technical interviews and hoops with HR is verifiably false. I have never gotten a job through "oppression olympics". Society is patriarchal as a whole and I can't expect it's effects on the industry to change when so many people are willing to frame women as "victims" who just happen to get turned off tech by hostile work environments and autistic weirdos.

     @teratology @arcana @sun @thegreatape it really depends on region and corporation size. EEOC reporting doesn't apply until like 30+ employees, and ESG doesn't apply until fink money is on the table.
     
     some finance corps have been staying delibrately under the limits, so they retain full control of hiring & internal privacy

     @icedquinn @arcana @sun @thegreatape I mean in the states when it comes to hiring I do not disclose my disability, or race/ ethnicity. I give as much little info as possible. A state job tried to ask for my sexuality too but I declined. No photo on resume. My name can be a giveaway unfortunately but I can't control that.

Legacy admissions have just started being banned at some universities. There was a scandal with USC too a few years ago.

Like if you are Asian and are good at lacrosse then you'll get in, this stuff came out in the lawsuit. This is almost 100% analogous to how Jews used to be kept out.

     the pedagogs get the middle-rate schools (harvard, yale, etc) because they actually need a handful of smart people to run all the control shit.
     
     the big chonks go to like, a single christian school that does not participate in any of the nonsense (like 80% of presidents have all gone to this ONE religious school) because they get the real education

     @sun @icedquinn @arcana @eemmaa @thegreatape I mean it isn't surprising but that's how it is in public schools here too, such as UCLA. When I was in highschool we all knew competitive programs required more, esp for impacted majors. Ivy Leagues are historically racist too. I think legacy admissions and bribing admissions should be banned and illegal. Celebrities here were caught bribing other private and public universities but there is more panic about affirmative action when it's illegal where I live.
