   Really? Because it's certainly worse than its been in my lifetime and I'm in my fifties. Up until 2020, I'd never witnessed an open and without-consequence attempted coup. And up until July 1st 2024, the United States was still a democracy. Now it can only be termed a hybrid monarchy where the President sits above the law, while a former President who should be in jail for treason is running for office.

     @John @clintruin @jgordon @samlitzinger Not to mention that the same convicted felon and facist is holding a rally inside MSG at the end of the month, just days before the election as a flashback to H in 1939.

     Yes, it was cool that the US did not go Nazi in the 1940s, as it might have done.

     The problem now is how we resist those worst motives in a world without gatekeepers. In a world where the deplorables have overpowered them.

     Nobody has an answer either, because they still do control one party in a two party system.

     Okay.
     But now they're a nascent fascist movement with a candidate running for office and the real potential to win...a candidate who the Supreme Court has literally pretzeled itself to protect, effectively if not permanently ending the concept of democracy in the US. I fear July 1st 2024 was just a precursor.

     But yeah, it's cool they weren't organized prior to the internet.

     @clintruin @jgordon @samlitzinger I read him as saying something different, that there have always been the the kind of people who now follow Trump.

     It's just that in the network tv age, with gate keeps, they were isolated, unaware of each other.

     They were unorganized deplorables.
