If there are 1000 people in need of help in an area, your faggy little 4 man official emergency response team (aka, excuse to get paid to fuck off in the woods during the work week) is not going to get that job done.
The government groups never have anywhere near enough resources to really help. But they will swear up and down nobody else can competently do so much as move a tree off the road or hump a 5 gallon container of water to a cut off house.

@Elliptica The first part only holds up if you don't think about the scale of the problem.
Most people who volunteer are not going to make things worse. Let's say 10% do. Those other 90% are still going to be a huge net positive.
Do you think it's better to let hundreds of people die in exchange for preventing 5-10 people from "giving you another problem"? Because that's the real equation.

@deprecated_ii It's a problem of "No, we don't want some retard with a truck to come out here, make things worse, and then hurt himself giving us another problem" and "The fuck you think you are, handing out water bottles and undermining my authority!?!?!?!"
