When I got my first smart phone it used some app for texting. I forget the name. Then Verizon forced me to change to Message+. This ended up being fine because the first app was a little unstable.
Last night I got a message from Message+ that I needed to move over to Google Messages.
Criminy. Pick an app and use it for cryin out loud.
At least the transition to Google Messages was fairly instantaneous and smooth.

@Ricardus Almost every android device these days are moving to Google Phone and Google Messages as the default although you can change defaults if you don't want to.
That's the beauty of Android.

@joeo10 Verizon is crippling that app so it won't work after November 14th or something.

@Ricardus Yikes, at least there's good alternatives out there especially on F-Droid if you don't want the Google apps.

@Ricardus There's plenty that I can't count but if you search for "messaging" or "messenger" then you have good options.
Fossify SMS is one good one but keep looking for one that you prefer.
