     I can't emphasize how many comments I've seen where people keep repeating "but I though you were for LEGAL immigration" or them trying to wrangle peoples' compliance using wordbending on "legal"

     @tomcat right, that's the problem is that what most people ultimately mean by "legal" is "way way way way less" and progressives are like "we'll just make what WE want 'legal', now you can't complain!"
     
     And that trick has worked on conservatives for 50 years, but people are seemingly getting angry now.

     I think what most people mean by "legal" immigration is an assumption of "vetted", not "waved the magic legal pen".
