Academia just suggested that I might want to read a paper about Lovecraftian / cosmic horror narrative structures in games, and of course I do.

And I don't dispute that it might improve, but it's a weak opener, with an oblique reference to some of my work writing about games, a highly speculative direct reference to a professional acquaintance's that they are clearly going to be all death of the author about instead of asking, and too many typos (please get someone to proofread your dissertations).

    flicking through

Also, please stop citing how many results your pet keyword gets on Google unless you're actually analysing search algorithm behaviour. It's a cheap rhetorical device.

The basic problem with this paper is that it doesn't actually appear to understand either narrative design or literary criticism.

Or Lovecraft. I hate to break it to you, but someone having a dad whose legacy looms large is not something you can compare to Lovecraft's fixation on miscegenation and bloodlines.

(Okay, it's a seminar paper, not a dissertation, my bar was set too high, but stiiill.)

@HauntedOwlbear there are places for keyword searches. My degree's final project was on the similarity of exosolar systems to our solar system, and there's a lot of weirdo language used in academia.

Though it was the child in me that put in a paragraph about why "Neptune-like" is preferred over "Uranus-like". I even ended the last sentence with an interrobang.

Thinking back the last sentence probably dropped me a few marks, but it was worth it.

@tautology to be fair, after you've been working on the damn thing for that long, you're more or less entitled to a bit of whimsical pressure relief.
