    I'm slightly obsessed with NM Card storage and want to replace the Micro SD in my medallion. it would be less convenient, but someone stealing it is unlikely to know how to access it?

      @raccoon this micro SD contains an encrypted backup of all my important stuff. I wear it all the time.

      @romin @kaia
      If encrypted storage that one can access directly gets permanently stolen, even such complex password as "hunter3" can be bruteforced given time 🤓

      @kaia then why do you care if someone access the data, unless your password is hunter2

      @kaia @raccoon
      If it's already encrypted there is no point in inconveniencing yourself for a little bit of security by obscurity. At this point anyone can just ask ChatGPT what is it.

      @kaia have you ever considered SPI EEPROM chips? — somebody getting ahold of it is less likely to be prepared for using test-clip, a programmer, and say flashrom to read/write it, compared to just inserting a (micro-)SD card into a USB adapter
      you also should use f2fs as the filesystem, not FAT or god forbid NTFS

      @amiloradovsky can you give me an example what kind of chip? I'm currently using 128GB SD storage, but even 5MB would suffice for my keepass

      @kaia @raccoon meanwhile, don't try and store important data on flash memory — charge leak will eventually make it unreadable
      use old HDDs for it, buy a lot of used HDDs for cheap, then make a redundant storage on them (RAID, ZFS, whatnot)

      @kaia M25P64 is an example, and for the programmer a CH341 would suffice
