>I got a question from my manager in my 1:1 in which he asked me "ChatGPT generated a program to solve the problem were you working in 5 minutes; why did it take you 3 days?"
>So, I tried to explain why I came up with the 3 day figure - and explained to him how testing and integration takes up a bit of time but he ended the conversation with "Let's be a bit more pragmatic and realistic with our estimates. 5 minutes worth of work shouldn't take 3 days; I'd expect you to have estimated half a day at the most."

@wowaname you can tell the AI to make your tests too

nobody's ever gonna learn at this rate...

@wowaname People found that you can get AI to write the tests first, then write the code, and you just put it in a loop until the code passes the tests.

@sun please tell me whether you're joking because i can't tell at all with you

@wowaname I'm using AI on a regular basis now to help me code and it's saving me a ton of time. that manager sounds like a dumbass but you can use it to augment your work.

@sun people always find bad ideas, what's your reason for telling *me* this

@wowaname No, I do a variety of work and even when I was working in crypto I was building enormous backend systems not doing smart contracts. Smart contracts were a lucrative side gig.

@sun do you still work exclusively on smart contracts and nothing else? because i can't take your anecdote seriously in that case

@wowaname Oh it frequently gives wrong answers for things but I use an iterative, segmented process and ultimately even with the mistakes it saves me a lot of time or solves things that internet searching didn't. It's a different way of working for sure.

@sun i'm genuinely surprised that AGI is supplementing your work without you having to push back against it much. it makes more sense if you're using your own datasets rather than the publicly-offered shit though

@wowaname you are right about that but they'll just eventually offer private cloud for it. I have worked on sensitive work and one time I asked about how they deal with running stuff on Windows 10 when you can't turn off things like telemetry and the manager got really pissed and basically told me to shut the fuck up.

@sun okay
the only case where i have to 100% disagree with using it is in clearanced or NDA work, which a lot of places (including my last job) do. the dumb part about my last employer was how they still wanted to shoehorn AGI into our workflow regardless of our privacy constraints
