一, pronounced "ichi", meaning "one". cool.
一つ, meaning "one thing"... pronounced "hitotsu"... sure okay totally different. but maybe it's just numbers that are like this...
大した, adjective meaning "great" and using the same character for big, pronounced "taishita". cool, I learned tai or dai as a pronunciation for 大 already, makes perfect sense
大きい, adjective meaning "big", pronounced "ookii". as in me saying "oh okay" out loud dejectedly
