@m1ss4ndry musl is cringe, as it is licensed under MIT expat and other pushover licenses; https://git.musl-libc.org/cgit/musl/tree/COPYRIGHT
glibc is based, as it comes with GNU/Freedom and is licensed under the LGPLv2.1-or-later. -

@Suiseiseki musl is smaller and has a better track record in terms of security In conversation permalink -

@m1ss4ndry >musl is smaller
It ends up being larger, as it's always static linked into every single binary, unlike glibc, which is dynamically linked, so there's only every one copy.
>has a better track record in terms of security
As far as I can tell, less people have just actually checked musl for security issues, while many people have checked glibc and have submitted security fixes.In conversation permalink -

@teratology >Are you sure about that?
Yes.
>like assuming open source projects
GNU/Jihad against "open source" and all other forms of proprietary degeneracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If a project lists itself as "open source", I can guarantee that it is less secure than projects that proudly state that they are free software.In conversation permalink -

@Suiseiseki @m1ss4ndry https://www.etalabs.net/compare_libcs.html
Are you sure about that?
Having more eyes doesn't necessarily mean a library is more secure, that's like assuming open source projects are more secure for encouraging code collaboration and code review. Having a more minimal library certainly makes it easier to manage.In conversation permalink Attachments

@teratology Anyway, thanks for linking to the post that shows that glibc is the fastest libc In conversation permalink
