The only time I forgot to turn on the screen curtain on my phone, people started reading out loud who was texting me and the messages themselves. It didn’t feel cool at all, so, lesson learned — my screen will remain dark.

It was resting on my leg, screen curtain on. After swwiping and tapping for 5+ minutes, the guy across from me said something like "It's clearly dead, love. Here, I've got a mobile charger you can use." and held out a cable to me. Not dead. Not plugging anything in either.
I regularly have to explain the privacy thing, and a phone with a working touchscreen showing nothing seems to baffle people too. -
