Wysteria (wysteriary@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 21-Sep-2024 18:59:11 JST Wysteria @evan @raphael @mike @johnonolan @dansup Those numbers you're citing are what the unblocked servers report as MAU, not total registered accounts. The unblocked servers report ~1.4 million registered accounts altogether (950660+228908+294551).
This leaves ~500k new accounts we can maybe attribute to actual growth. Which is still significant, but it's not 1.9M.

Are the servers themselves objectionable, or just the numbers they report that are suspicious?
