    Serious PSA: If you’re taking the RER C from Paris to Versailles, don’t get the t+ ticket (€2.15). You have to buy a ticket for Versailles (€4.15).

    There are people waiting to check at the exit and the instant fine is €32. I saw many people caught out by this.

      @davidho this is a typical Parisian trap… the t+ tickets are only available “intramuros" (so only for some zones which cover Paris itself and “some" outside stations) and the gates only know where you enter, not where you intend to get out so can't enforce that you use the proper ticket… The quintessential example for this is La Défense which you can reach either by RER (with a more costly ticket) or via the Métro with a t+ ticket… 😬

      @davidho Tokyo's Suica/Pasmo card seems to be more passenger-friendly:
      "If you are caught out and run out of charge on the card when arriving at a station, you can even top-up at special kiosks inside the gates before you exit"

      Perhaps it's another example of Japan's Galápagos syndrome🤔

        Galápagos syndrome
        Galápagos syndrome (ガラパゴス化, Garapagosu-ka, / Galápagos effect) is a term of Japanese origin used in business studies to refer to an isolated development branch of a globally available product. The term is used as an analogy to a part of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species. Darwin encountered in the Galápagos Islands isolated flora and fauna, which had undergone evolutionary changes independently from the mainland. This phenomenon was a key to the development of evolutionary theory. Darwin stated that due to the differences in environment from one island to another, species adapted to make survival more viable in the local environment of each island. Similarly, a development of goods "in relative isolation from the rest of the world because of a focus on the local market" can lead to similarly differing products. The term "Galápagos syndrome" has been used as a metaphor outside the field of business jargon. The term "Galápagosization", referring to the process of the isolation of...
