   Parents will literally simulate abduction for their daughter.

   And wonder 2 years later, why she has trauma, is eating anti-depressives like candies and cannot form a trusting relationship with anyone.

     @LukeAlmighty my parents took my two youngest siblings to some emergency preparedness thing, where they were all at a big warehouse sleeping on cots. they all got woken up in the middle of the night because of a staged shooting and my sister got separated and freaked out.

     i mean yes, stuff like this is effective just as any other scare tactic is, but it's not like it doesn't do some damage at the same time.

     Meanwhile, all my dad did was to try being as open and accepting about our boundries. And I nor my sister ever felt the need to hide things from him or to "rebel" as abusive boomers tend to say.

     Instead, I trust his advice completely.
