Good Lord, I briefly forgot Covid anosmia. She did refuse Covid vaccines and had the expected consequences. 🤦🏼♀️

mark (atleagle@mastodon.online)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 02:08:58 JST mark @MaryAustinBooks @hannu_ikonen my smell has only come back part way, and I have updated every vax. I'm honestly afraid I will kill someone by cooking bad ingredients. I have the hardest time smelling things that are supposed to defense mechanisms. Fresh fruit now smells like trash, which is the most annoying thing ever

mark (atleagle@mastodon.online)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 02:40:04 JST mark @MaryAustinBooks @hannu_ikonen I've tried everything except for the nerve block. I can smell new things on occasion, and sometimes the fruit is less offensive, but I don't think I will remember what normal was while I'm recovering. It's permanent as far as I am concerned and every time things improve I make sure to appreciate the baby steps

I am so sorry! Have you tried smell retraining?I experienced some minimal smell disruptions-- nothing I noticed in the acute phase, but 8-9 months later I had (you guessed it!) olfactory hallucinations of cat pee or poop. I would think my cat, or my neighbor's cat, had made a mess and then it'd turn out there was nothing to clean up. It would pass in 15 minutes. I laughed it off until I got better, but more severe experiences are no joke!
