Has anyone cycled the Hebridean Way? I'm thinking about it for next May but don't know where to start with planning. Is there a handy itinerary maker tool or some such? Im thinking four or five days. #scotland#WesternIsles#BikeTooter
@DurableAce thank you. For note, there are plans to build a cycling safe network on Skye. There's a nice wee bit from lower Breakish to Waterloo that cuts out a horrible bit of the main road and offers a really bonny view. Bits are already in, but there is more on the way. Until then, I have no plans to tackle it. Same as the NC500. There are too many eejits in camper vans.
@CloudyMrs in addition to the resources already shared, I would add a few tips.
1. The further north, the less will be open on a Sunday, so plan ahead. The hotel in Tarbert is a welcome exception. You’ll be fine in Stornoway. 2. I recommend not cycling on Skye. The main road east of Portree is the most terrifying road I have ever cycled. When I next go back, I will cross to Ullapool, ride to Garve and take the train back to the start in Oban.
@DurableAce I did the bit through the flow country to John o Groats over a weekend a few years ago. Was reduced to eating couscous and bourbon biscuits for breakfast because there was nowhere open, and that's all I had left. I've learned that lesson.
