That is how long the Shareky Development kept the physical servers, before the lead kept them as their own personal computer. Arguably within the 1st week, they started using the server, that I and others (because it was not just me) funded for the project and for their flagship instance, the moment they started using it to play Minecraft.
During those 4 months there would be only 1 software release, and you're likely on it. Sharkey version 2024.5.1, and it was only released after, I made a fuss about the development.
Technically, yes, it would count as a type of fraud. Especially since the hardware did not pass onto neither Shareky nor the flagship instance. Am I, personally, going to pursue the matter? No, not unless others were willing to do so.
My issues go a little deeper than just the fact that I gave her 1,000 bucks and I presume the community gave her the other 1,000 bucks (you said 2k in your post).
My issue is how much she used her free time to have a laugh at it all. Not just at my expense, but also to anyone else who spoke up. Furthermore, I appreciate that you were the only person who came forward in public (thank you) and informed me that Sharkey was starting over.
The problem is the new lead, and perhaps some of the old lead's friends, made it very clear that a new beginning is not something we are going to have.
I am going to spend my free time, just as they did, cautioning people about the development and the nature of the people behind that development.
@Linux@kitty.social I'm upset at it as well, unfortunately we were not in a position to leverage it. In my opinion there's more pressing issues for Amelia, such as the fact that she had a big GDPR mess. For starters, she nuked the privacy policy we had before without prior notice (I believe it's a 30 day notice? I don't remember if GDPR is the one that requires it but I do know there's a reason it's standard throughout the industry). Unfortunately, due to how little the assets were valued (I mean, in the grand scheme of things ~2k euro is a small amount) I have concerns that any sort of action to try to get them back may lead to more financial drain. I also don't really know what would happen in that case, say we did go through the proceedings... Would we get the hardware back? would we get the money spent on the hardware back? If we got the hardware back there's not much use in it apart from liquidating it and trying to disperse the amount gained from liquidation (which is not going to be the same amount put in)...
A nightmare to sort through which is why I'm just letting it be, personally I just want her to leave me alone especially because I am hurt by her decisions leading up to the event. I am thankful that I have the instance. The reason the instance mattered a lot to me because I had spent the previous 6 months making it a community with people I enjoy talking to, it felt personal again and I relived my tumblr trauma of being terminated. It was awful when I had no control and had to watch in horror as the entire instance was at the mercy of her who was clearly not in the right state of mind to be making large decisions. I think it'd be better to just drop it - as much as I'd like to get something back I don't feel comfortable with hurting her even worse. She is clearly struggling in life and without the support she desperately needs. I don't think her parents are very supportive of her, and she has been forced to basically figure things out on her own. It sucks that all of this happened, believe me I am furious but at this point in time I care more about rebuilding what was lost instead of going after the person who lit everything on fire.
@Linux@kitty.social I personally donated USD$800 towards our hardware donation fund. I felt bad asking for so much, and I wanted to show that I was also going to be giving money towards it instead of what people usually do which is ask for money (without even adding some of theirs to the pot). So, I feel you.
@Linux@kitty.social Imagine spending even more to get the instance back and to clear the debt. I didn't do that thank god, but my friends definitely came in to help me out.
Officially (publically), no, but I cannot say they have nothing to do with the development.
We were all given that public notice that Sharkey was now under new management. A few people even reached out (publically and in private) to tell me things were changing. The new leadership, however, seems to be up to some of the same games as the old leadership, though. A new beginning this was not.
I am not surprised, just disappointed.
A bit of a long read, but may give some insight (see quote / link).
@Linux I feel for you friend. I read everything my instance has from your profile and this made me sad about it all. I never had a #sharkey instance but I was always honestly glad about a good misskey fork and with trans people involved (some of my best friends are trans, I understand the struggle they have in life).
Also using funding money for a minecraft is just too much for me. Is this person an adult? Wow.
If they can pick up a server and then bring that server to a local data center, they're not someone's underage child. More so, they would not be collecting the funds to achieve all this if they were.
@Linux you are right. It is just such an ridiculous behaviour for a functional being that made me question. My english aint great so I might sound odd I guess.
