“One way to achieve the desired level of integration is to control the entire software stack, right down to the operating system … on a new technologically advanced operating system tentatively named ‘KDE Linux’”

    This. Finally. Yes.👆

And, hopefully, folks like @starlabssystems can take this further and add hardware to the stack: e.g., The StarBook is designed for KDE Linux. You can run any distribution on it but everything works 100% on its default OS. https://floss.social/@akademy/113123668949310341

@starlabssystems The only way Linux-based devices will compete successfully with the mainstream devices used by everyday people who use technology as an everyday thing is if there are organisations that step up and accept responsibility for the whole *experience*. We need a “the buck stops here” approach to free and open source instead of “it’s an upstream issue” approach. And device manufacturers like StarLabs are the natural place for this.

        Talks
I’ve given hundreds of talks over the last two decades and beyond. Here are a few of my favourites in chronological order so you can see how my focus and thoughts have evolved through the years. I hope you enjoy them. PS. If you want me to speak about the Small Web at your event, feel free to send a short message to mail@ar.al with the details. PPS. You can see Laura and me live every third Thursday of the month on Small is Beautiful, which we stream from our own Owncast server.
