@alice It's optional and opt-in. Not to mention a experimental feature. I don't see the problem here. Just keep it off and give feedback through the link that you think it's stupid. It's another way for Mozilla to make money that isn't reliant on Google. I see no issues with this. 🤷
@GlenMerlin@mastodon.social@alice@mk.nyaa.placeIt's optional and opt-in.For now.Not to mention a experimental feature. [...] give feedback through the linkAn experimental feature that has been getting feedback for over 3 months, and of which all feedback that would be in favour of respecting the users is being blatantly ignored. It's another way for Mozilla to make money that isn't reliant on Google.Mozilla is flush with cash right now, they're just not spending any (significant) resources on making the products people actually want any better. They could go on for a decade or so if they weren't too busy giving ridiculous bonuses to their top execs and burning money on silly side-businesses that so far have never paid off.I see no issues with this. This might be your first anti-feature introduction into #Firefox, then. I honestly hope you will learn from this.
@GlenMerlin@mastodon.social@alice@mk.nyaa.place I've been using firefox for atleast 7 years now. This isn't the first poor decision I've seen Mozilla make. After 7 years of seeing them fuck up again and again you just gave up? Or did you not really care about having a free (as in freedom) browser that respects users to begin with?Do you have any sources for the claims that they're flush with cash?Yes, you can read it yourself in their financial reports they publish every year. You can also notice it in the bonuses they pay out to their C-suite. https://assets.mozilla.net/annualreport/2022/mozilla-fdn-2022-fs-final-0908.pdfdiversifying their income is a good ideaI generally agree. However, they've had quite a while to diversify their income, and every single attempt so far has only cost them money, and generally a lot of users as well. How much money did they lose in contributions thanks to all these major fuckups that their userbase warned them about time and time again?

Obviously Google pays them a lot right now but diversifying their income is a good idea to not rely on Google especially with U.S. anti-trust putting so much scrutiny on Google's behavior right now.
