   Finally got my ETH node working. I had to pay a service to get my consensus node synced up to date quickly because the free ones always time out or cut you off too fast. Nimbus didn't make clear that if you are behind a NAT that you HAVE to add a command line parameter with the external IP or it will go out of sync. And the execution node (Nethermind) would NOT sync until the consensus node was synced.
   
   I think anyway! It didn't work for several hours until the consensus node synced, then the execution node started syncing immediately.
   
   Pain in the ass.

     @moth_ball There is a social network that is based around crypto that needs a full node to operate.
     
     What a node enables is you can look at the state of any account balance or smart contract, or interact with a contract. contracts are often used to enforce state with a webapp trustlessly, eg you can make it so that nobody can alter the data of a site.

     That's nice. I lost interest in ETH when it when from a minable commodity to a ponzi scheme. Are the transaction fees still like $45 a pop?

     @olmitch speaking as someone with professional experience with it for years now, Polygon is a piece of shit under the covers. Spam is a big problem on Polygon and some other L2s, they all rely on Ethereum in various ways to determine what really has value. Most of the L2s can only survive complementary to Ethereum.

     @sun @olmitch me 2 but network effect will keep it in zombie mode for several years. I also heard it was going to get converted to a validium which would be a little better but still not as good as a real rollup
