   Did the Internet Archive Open Library pay for anything or was it all just stolen content? Libraries pay for their books and licensed ebooks.

     @waldschnecke it's says "we buy ebooks" not "we license ebooks"
     
     You can't just give out copies of ebooks, as a library you have to have a license for each copy that's lended out. And they'd need an ebook platform with DRM to ensure this. This was probably their biggest mistake
